Six-month-old dog learning to stay

Teaching Impulse Control

I use hand signals when training dogs. Dogs learn body language quicker than verbal words.

When dogs learn hand signals we can communicate with them, just by using our hands.

As I am training this young six-month-old dog to stay in position.

Working with impulse control is the next step after basic obedience training is learned.

Advanced Skills

In this course you will begin to learn how to start adding in other skills. How to add in distance between you and your dog. Using "touch" hand targeting. Duration is timing, and how long can your dog stay in position.

Adding in distractions by walking around your dog. Once your dog learns good impulse control then you can start to add in another distraction.

German Shephard
German Shepherd

Is in the herding group. They are keenly aware of their environment, as well as their guardians' emotions. Understand your breed of dog.

Every dog breed was bred many years ago for a purpose, they had jobs. Today our lives have changed, and we domesticate our dogs by living in our homes. They are learning to navigate in a human world filled with busy homes, city streets and so much more.

Frisbee
Frisbee

Frisbee can be a fun game. This game allows the dog to chase. This too is a game; I start by teaching up close to the dog. Getting the behavior first and then adding in more distance.

A dog's nose
A Dogs Nose

A dog's nose is powerful! The dog's sense of smell is very powerful. I recommend setting up search games in your home or in your yard. Games like "Find It" work great outdoors and indoors. All dogs need mind stimulation and enrichment. Allow your dog to sniff and explore.

You will often find me outdoors. I love the fresh air. I work with dogs outdoors often. The environment can be distracting because there are so many different scents in the area. Sometimes the environment can be too distracting for a dog, then I change the environment to a different area with less distractions. I offer private one-on-one sessions in Sheboygan, WI. and the surrounding area. I encourage positive reinforcement training. Setting up you and your dog to be successful.
